One O’clock Club – Winners of games played on Tuesday September 1 were dominoes – Jean Crawford, challenge dominoes – Peggy Brown, bowls – Tilda Sneddon & Jenny Morris & whist – Jenny Taylor.
Douglas Valley Church – On Sunday September 6, the annual flower service took place after the Flower Show. Committees are asked to meet this Wednesday in Rigside at 7pm, followed by a meeting of the Kirk Session at 7.30pm. Holy Communion will be celebrated on Sunday September 13 at 10am in Douglas. The minister Rev Robert Cleland will lead worship.
Douglas Flower Show – President Robert Mitchell welcomed locals and visitors to the annual Flower Show in Douglas Primary School on Saturday September 5. He then handed over to Dr Addison who said a few words before introducing Lord Home who formally opened the show. Lady Home then presented the trophies to the prizewinners of all the various classes. Gala Queen Robyn Taylor then presented Lord and Lady Home with small tokens of appreciation for opening the show and presenting the prizes. As well as the usual exhibits Brass Sounds from Inverclyde came along and entertained the visitors to the show. Also on display were photographs of the recent garden and scarecrow competitions as well as some paintings from local artists who attend the Douglas Art class. The committee are indebted to all exhibitors for all their hard work and visitors who support the show and all who helped in any way to make the show, once again a success. The day finished with a successful family ceilidh in St. Brides Community Centre, which was enjoyed by all who attended.
