Coal lorry crashes near Happendon services - Gazette

Coal lorry clean up at Poniel roundabout 11/4/12

A LORRY carrying tonnes of coal has overturned just off the M74 motorway at Happendon services.

The incident, just after 1.30pm today (Wednesday), saw coal being thrown onto the road when a HGV lorry tipped onto its side. It was travelling from the Broken Cross opencast site.

The driver of the Anderson lorry was treated at the scene but declined to go to hospital.

Road traffic police officers attended the scene, just off junction 11 at Poneil and, with the help of a local farmer, the coal is now being removed from the scene.

A diversion is in place for people travelling from the Lesmahagow side of the roundabout.

The incident is almost a copy of one at the same location on Friday, March 30.
