Mainshill / Poniel / Glentaggart / Dalquhandy Open Cast Coal Site blight
The Douglas Valley was designated as an 'Area of Great Landscape Value' by South Lanarkshire Council.
Below are a selection of ariel photographs taken February 2010, showing the continuing and systematic destruction of our environment by Scottish Coal / Douglas and Angus Estate at Mainshill Wood and the onging mineral excavation by Scottish Coal at Poniel open cast coal site (occs).
These open cast mineral extraction applications were opposed by the majority of the local community but given permission by South Lanarkshire Council.
