Douglasdale Football

Kenny Sludden is collating information on ‘Football in Douglas’. He would be very grateful for information by way of photographs, press cuttings, scrapbooks, or even anecdotal facts on football teams over the years in Douglas and Glespin.
Information is particularly scarce on Douglas West Rovers, Douglasdale, and Douglas Juveniles. Any material received will be cared for and returned as soon as possible.
Please contact Kenny at Castleview, Colonels Entry, Douglas, ML11 0RY, on 01555 851708 or 07766584707, or sluddenall@colentry.plus.com.
Click on the Title link above "Douglasdale Football" to view the website Kenny has now launched. It is an excellent and fascinating website about football in the Douglas Valley through the years.
Congratulation and thanks to Kenny and his contributors to date, for this community resource.

Here's an example of what we're looking for...

They may have been amateurs but this was one of many cup lifting moments...but who are they...and when did it happen ?

Do you remember this ocassion ?
Were you there ?
Who's in the picture ?
Were you part of this team, or any other Douglas football team, if so, can you tell us which one and what it was like ?
Did you score any goals...or get sent off !?

If this has floodlit a moment in time or kicked off a memory, please share it, by contacting Kenny at the above, and help keep our football heritage alive.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Fun game or fundraiser for the Dr Gardner Cup 19??, can you help ?

It's thought that the above picture was one of the teams that played in a fundraising game to raise funds for a football cup to be played for locally.

The Dr Gardner Cup became a popular tournament played for annually by the local primary schools.

Dr Ian Gardner died in 1971.

Can you tell us why and when the game was played and what the score was ?

Thanks to Ian Houston of Douglas (front row, second left) the above, and now much restored photo' is of the Gray Tool team before the match at the Dale park. Notice anthing missing .... apart from the socks of one of the team in the front row .... here's a clue, look behind the team...?

Due to the widespread interest now being shown for this page, we have been sent information about the above picture -

Eric Lindsay, Tony Allen, Allan Coates, Frank Webb, Alex Morrow & Bobby Williamson

Bernie Ramp, Ian Houston, Willie Neil, Jim McMillan & Bill Kane.

If you are in the above picture please let us know.
