Hi Mandy. My name is Brian Burnside.Your gran and granddad were our next door neighbours in Glespin. we visited your relatives in sydney last year,(peter,Hugh and Helen Clark).I remember your family living downstairs from us. I now live in Rigside near Douglas where Annie lived. I used to work with her husband Archie in the local coalmine in Glespin. Sadly Annie passed away, but her family still live locally.(ritchie,Lesley, and Jim)who we think is in USA.

Douglas cleanup
To run alongside the Douglas Community Cleanup Weekend there is to be a cleanup of Douglas Community Woodland. It is Hoped to tidy up fly tipped and general litter from at least part of this community asset. Cleanup will start at 2pm on Sunday 4th Nov. As a token of our appreciation, there will be fireworks and a bbq available around our bonfire for all to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you there.

Working mans club
Sorry I may be in the wrong place but not sure where to look first. I had grandparents in who I think lived (caretakers?) in a working mans club on the outskirts of Douglas. Their surname was Bruce, unfortunately my mother died, their daughter and we lost contact. I was only 7 at the time and have a only a few memories left but seem to remember it bordered onto some woods and had tennis courts in front. We used to work down a path besides these courts to collect the milk.I would be most grateful if someone could confirm if this really existed or whether I dreamt it all. I am now 61 and would desperately love to know. Many thanks.

Hi, I think this may have been the miners welfare hall at Douglas West. Please look on the historical photos page of www.Douglasdalerealgroup.co.uk as there is a photo of the hall on that local website.

Poem
Hi,

I am really hoping someone can help me here!?

My late gran, (Helen Hastings who is orginally from Douglas) every christmas would tell us a poem she never had it written down she knew it off by heart. I can only remember the start of it and i have googled it but with no luck.

The poem started:-
" For grandfather when i was young it was poridge twice a day.... "

I know its not much to go on but i would appreciate anyones help.

Thanks

I am so impressed with this community website. How blessed is Douglas to have such talent. It's a brilliant one stop community shop and an example to other communities. I particularly enjoyed reading all the comments from people with Douglas connections. Douglas is clearly a very special place.
